Launched in 1994, Yahoo is the web's oldest "directory," a place where human editors organize web sites into categories. A search at Yahoo will show you if there are any categories that match your search topic. If so, you'll be taken to a list of sites that have been reviewed and approved by a human editor. Yahoo also shows you top web site matches for any search from across all categories. In cases where a search fails to find a match in Yahoo's own human-compiled listings, then Yahoo displays matches from Google's crawler-based results. Sites pay a fee to be included in Yahoo's commercial listings, though they must meet editor approval before being accepted. Non-commercial content is accepted for free. Consider Yahoo any time you think you might be well served by having a list of web sites.
